I recently bought two tiger barbs for my tank as starter fish. The fish shop they were suitable along with two kuhli loaches.

The barbs started out being aggressive to each other so I had decide to return them to the store the next day after reading how they shouldn't be kept in groups of less than 5/6

They had killed each other by the morning.

I was annoyed that the shop hadn't warned me that such a small group was likely to result in one killing the other. I had had them less than 24 hours and felt awful. When we went back one of the people said they were surprised, one said they weren't.

I would advise against having them in small sets.

I'm not too sure about the nipping, maybe against other breeds or younger fish.... I have a serpae and a red eye tetra in the same tank (they each had a school at one time, but somehow my tank levels drifted fast and I lost the others) and it seems that they keep to their own areas of the tank.

the serpae stays low and feeds closer to the bottom, while the red-eye shoots to the top to feed and alot of the time chases away the serpae, and I usually see the red-eye doing the bullying in the tank, but he's also the oldest of the two.

I've also noticed they are sensitive to water temp, preferring the 74-76f range, and the light being on, as if the temp drifts or the light is off for a few days they turn pale until the light is turned back on.

Hi! I got my BGK about two weeks ago and my tank has come down with ich! I asked around at differint pet stores and they recomended Rid-Ich. So I added the right dose and did two treatments, but now my BGK is on the bottom of the tank, has white lines and the tip of its tail is red. I did a 45% water change and checked the condition of my water. pH and everything is fine. Also i noticed the rosy barb i have was picking on the BGK tail. I need advice please, I really don't want to loose my BGK.

I Have had a fish tank for sometime now and I have only two angle fish and a couple of day ago i decided i wanted to put some Darf Gourami fish in so i went to the store and bought a male and a fat female (hoping that she was pregnant). I had doen a lot of studing and all the books said that the two fish would form a tight bond, and the two i have bought have not. Am i doing something worng? Also the female is very large. Is there a possibility that she is pregnant and just will not lay her eggs because i bought the wrong male?

We just got a BGK. They are a really neat fish. It is still in the hiding mode so we hope to see more later. We have ours in with a dragon fish, chilids, crabs, sharks, and kissing fish. They are all roughly the same size so hope they all get along. We cant wait untill we can interact with our BGK.
